Researchers monitoring progress of shark
Because of a reporter’s error, a story on the juvenile great white shark that beached in Chatham on Tuesday gave the impression that it was moving out to sea. The buoy that received the signal from Jameson, the 7-foot shark, cannot detect movement, just the presence of the animal. While it is a hopeful sign the juvenile shark may be alive, researchers feel they need to receive more signals from the tag to know for sure.

Easements would allow limited public access
Because of incorrect information provided to the Cape Cod Times, an editorial in Thursday’s Times contained an inaccurate statement about permanent easements at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich. If granted, the easements would allow public access to those areas covered by the easements, which would be rebuilt dunes. The town is considering additional restrictions that would require people to stay off the dunes.

Reference to statute of limitations clarified
A story on Page A1 of Thursday’s Times that included a reference to the statute of limitations requires clarification. Jessica Hurtubise, now 35, said the police told her in 2003 the statute of limitations had passed on her ability to bring charges against her grandfather, William F. Mulcahy, for molesting her as a child. When she was 13 and still covered by the statute of limitations — which has changed over time — Hurtubise said she told her school guidance counselor, but she said the counselor did not believe her and said there was nothing she could do.
