The Cape Cod Rail Trail bridge that is going to be built over Bass River from Dennis to Yarmouth should be stopped in its tracks until the river is opened back to its original width.
The Dennis and Yarmouth natural resources and health departments should do whatever it takes to make that happen. Water quality in Kelleys Bay, Dinahs Pond and Follins Pond is poor because of poor flushing, partly as a result of the railroad’s choke point to build a bridge. That’s gone now, and this is the only chance to fix the problem.
For all the residents of both towns for generations to come, all the elected officials of both towns and state representatives should demand that and work to make it happen. We can easily have it all: a great bike trail and bridge and better water quality.
