question re: Adobe Flash Player
These guys are hell-bent on me downloading them. Normally I ignore any company being as pushy as they are, as more often than not its trouble.
Question is are they safe? I see places where I can`t view something unless AFP is installed.
Thank you.......& what a beautiful day! if you like wicked hot weather......

Buyer beware. I check out reviews first. http://www.cnet.com/ does a pretty good job and they have clean downloads too. Sometimes a search "product name review" will help.
There is some good free stuff out there, a bit of research will find most any application.
Some older programs are now freeware or abandonedware. That really cool game from 20 years ago often isn't that cool now. Some are though.

I still like 1942/1943.

Speed Fan
Speed Fan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) is a nifty little FREE program that monitors the temperatures and fan speeds in your computer among other things.
I like it because sometimes I work my computer pretty hard with graphics that tax my processor. Keeping an eye on the temps let me know to slow down or take a break from a program that is heating me up.
I SHOULD get a better cooling system but that will be the next build.
Free is cheap, small amount of processor resources used, I like it.

InfraRecorder
I replaced my CD read write a few days back with a CD/DVD read write unit (Samsung SH-S222A DVD burner). I didn't have all the necessary programs to burn CDs or DVDs so I looked at http://www.osalt.com/ Open Source as Alternative for some FREE software and came up with this little goody.
Not as fast copying CD's as the RecordNow software I had but it's a smaller file size and has quite a lot more functions.
So far, so good. I'll get some DVD-R media and try that next.

Re: Open Source
How ever so timely! I just bought a new camera! Thanks so much!!
I`m on my way to check these 10 sites out.
Downloaded Gimp almost all the way- stopped when it started talking about fundoodletoolbah, or something like that.
Guess `free` means extra stuff I don`t want????

"Custom Installation"
You can put in what you want/don't want.
Firefox has some neat stuff for photo management.
I'm a little busy this week, I'll help you in a while...
Perhaps toss a photo in the Gallery?
Just sayin'

Re: Open Source
Downloaded then took out one of the 10 - can`t recall which it was. Pc started acting like mollasses.
Found something else in my programs called yontoo? Its gone now.
I do already have a photo program called Creative Photo Manager. And Paint is another one already built in.
These will suffice for now.

I had to search "yontoo".
Doesn't sound very nice.
Hopefully you got rid of it all.

Update:
I ended with Splashup. Its sitting being unused in my toolbah, b/c it doesn`t come with instructions. I googled `how to use Splashup` yet sadly, noone wants to divulge any secrets that I can find.

MY advice is to use a photo you don't much care about and stick it in Splashup. Play around. "What will this do?. Hopefully things that are "industry-wide" will remain constant.
like pressing Ctrl+z at the same time will "undo".
Best of luck!

Re: Open Source
Perhaps you could post a Before, During and After in The Gallery!?
I miss the Photoshop Lite I had. I could Crop, do some color work and simple stuff that a "Snap-Shotter" like me needs.
I had to get complicated, but that's me.
