Traffic lights at busy Dennis intersection still down from storm

DENNIS – Dennis Police report that the damage to the traffic lights at Theophilus F. Smith Road and Route 134 is quite extensive. Add the storm, and the pending repairs are delayed. The Department has message boards out to remind motorists of the current 3-way stop situation. Please use extreme caution in the area.

DPW reports they expect a crew will be on scene tomorrow to initiate repairs.

As Cape Wide News reported during the storm last Friday, a primary electric wire came down on Route 134 at that intersection and landed on the traffic lights, sending some 13,000 volts through the traffic light system for that intersection. The photo above shows the damage the electricity did at the bottom of the pole. Those holes in the metal poles are from the electricity “exiting” and seeking ground. This should be a good reminder of how deadly downed wires can be! Remember to stay away from any downed wire and call 911 immediately.
