All signs are pointing to astrology`s immutability
All signs are pointing to astrology's immutability
January 22, 2011Astrology is in the news lately. Another modern-day astronomer stirs up the old signs-versus-constellations red herring, claiming that everyone's sign is wrong because the constellations have shifted over the years.
Real science, wrong interpretation.
The thing is, astrology as practiced in the Western world hasn't paid any attention to constellations for well over 2,000 years now. It's the signs that modern astrology uses — not the constellations. So any discrepancy between signs and constellations is purely irrelevant. And the signs don't change over the years, because they're pegged to the sun's position at the vernal equinox — the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
If astronomers knew anything at all about astrology — which they used to (ever heard of that fellow Ptolomy?) — they wouldn't make such silly claims.
A more in-depth explanation on this subject in an article by Richard Nolle available at www.astropro.com/features/articles/zodiacs/precessA.html.
Are the astronomers willfully ignorant? Or are they unconscionable propagandists? Either way, it's clear those signs in the sky are safe and sound and immutable as ever.

Considering the fact that the Doctor had a greater gravitational force over me at birth than Mars, I smile politely when offered Astrology.
Even after the shift of assigning names I'm still an asshole Aries.
