History for sale in Yarmouth Port

1730 Colonial House Inn, complete with ghost stories, is on the market.

YARMOUTH PORT — For sale. Historic 250-year-old inn. Home to ship captains, ministers, politicians.

May be haunted.

The Colonial House Inn is a stately Victorian bed and breakfast situated on Old King’s Highway. It's on the market for the first time in 37 years after its longtime owner, Malcom (Mack) Perna, died last September.

Perna, who was never married, devoted his life to running the inn after buying it in 1979. The inn, which has about 20 rooms in two buildings, with more than 9,000 feet of living space, is assessed at $1.1 million but is being offered for $950,000. It sits on 1.23 acres.

Family members have decided to sell the inn to someone interested in continuing its current use, according to Perna’s sister, Nancy Jarvis. A prospective buyer would have to be committed to preserving its history. They may also have to be open to a bit of paranormal activity here and there.

During a recent interview with the Times, Jarvis and her brother George Perna said they had never experienced any ghostly presence at the inn.

But it has a haunted reputation, based on investigations by paranormal associations and reports from some of the guests. Neutral What a Face affraid
