Titanic: time capsule or sacred ground?

April 15, 2012BA century after the infamous night, the debate over how people should treat the wreckage of the RMS Titanic rages on.

In 1985, an expedition led by Robert Ballard – then an oceanographer with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution – and French oceanographer Jean-Louis Michel discovered the Titanic wreckage.

That team of scientists solved the mystery of where the most famous shipwrecked vessel found its final resting place, but sparked a new question: Is the wreckage a window into history rife with artifacts for furthering people's understanding of the goings-on on the Titanic in the days and hours before it made its fatal descent or a graveyard where the 1,500 souls should be left to rest?
