Cape third-grader gets jury summons
WEST YARMOUTH — Jacob R. Clark found an easy way to get out of jury duty after receiving a summons in the mail.

The 9-year-old told the jury commission office his age.

Actually, the third-grader had his father, Robby Clark, make the call for him.

Jacob gets kind of nervous talking to adults on the phone. Besides, he doesn't get home from Station Avenue Elementary School until 4 p.m.

"I was like, 'What's a jury duty?'" Jacob said after being summoned to appear in Orleans District Court on April 18.

Jacob's grandmother Deborah Clark joked that jury duty was good for a day off from school.

But once she explained that jury duty could mean facing people accused of crimes, school seemed like a holiday.

"He said, 'I don't want to go! I don't want to go!'" Deborah Clark said.
