April 10, 2011PROVINCETOWN — He was a street singer, cross-dresser, Red Sox fan and former minister who often sat in front of town hall and enthralled people with his silky renditions of "My Way" and "New York, New York."
Eliot "Ellie" Castillo, 79, died Thursday in hospice care in East Sandwich leaving behind a family he was in the process of reconciling with and admirers who mourned his passing.
"There have been so many people who have come up to me, telling me how much my father has meant to them," said his daughter Andree Clearwater, 58, after learning Saturday that fans were leaving bouquets in memory of Castillo at town hall.
Doctors at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis diagnosed Castillo with pancreatic cancer in mid-February, Clearwater said. Castillo then experienced ups and downs with his health, moving back and forth between the hospital and a health care center in Provincetown. When family members learned the worst news, that Castillo only had a few days left, they moved him into a hospice center.
"It just catches all our hearts," Clearwater said. "We're just so proud of our father. He had a really valiant last 56 days."

A One-Man Gay Pride/ Carnival Parade!
Walked around pulling a wagon with a Karaoke Machine.
I'm pretty sure I have a photo of him from last summer.
Tons of video on-line. Search "Provincetown Ellie"
