Sex on the Beach
Dennis must protect us from disgusting teens
Just when I think I cannot be shocked anymore, I read about the four disgusting teenagers having sex in the water on Mayflower Beach in Dennis at 1:30 in the afternoon. Just as disgusting is the crowd that gathered to cheer them on!
To quote Dennis Beach and Recreation Director Dustin Pineau, “Because of that, the police and ourselves are going to have to tighten down on the rules.” That is the understatement of the year!
We had a “family” group of 25 people beside us July 4 at Mayflower Beach, and the more they drank the louder and more obnoxious they became.
For the good and enjoyment of the majority of taxpaying families on the beach, why are these rules not being enforced?
I remember a few years ago, because of the escalation of alcohol on the beach, someone was riding around on an ATV and enforcing the no-alcohol rule. Maybe it’s time to go back to that and return our beautiful Mayflower Beach to families.
Note that not one of those disgusting teenagers was from our town of Dennis. It all comes down to respect, and they obviously don’t have any respect for our town or our beach — or for themselves, for that matter.

Re: Sex on the Beach
Dennis acting wisely to curb beach madness
It’s good to see that the town of Dennis has taken quick action on the problem of misbehavior on several of its 18 beaches last summer (“Dennis to add beach monitors to keep peace,” March 1, Page 1).
Selectmen have allocated money for mobile monitors and improvement of clogged roads and drop-off problems, and will continue to keep an eye on what’s happening. In spite of significant revenue to the town from beach stickers, there’s such a thing as being too popular.
We don’t want to be known as “that town with that beach.” One Nantucket beach and its neighbors were descended on by 5,000 partiers several years ago after it was chosen on social media as the place to be. There was vandalism and other unpleasantness.
We hope that keeping the peace, and controlling noise and overcrowding on every one of our beaches, will continue to be a high priority.
With great beaches comes great responsibility.

Re: Sex on the Beach
1 bout of hanky-panky shouldn’t bust the bank
Dennis has made a big fuss of one reported case of teenage sexual behavior on Mayflower Beach last season. As a result, the town wants to spend many thousands of dollars to hire police and/ or monitors to patrol the beaches.
Apparently no other towns are hiring monitors. Seasonal monitors will likely be one young student per beach who will in no way be able to deal with groups of offenders in the unlikely event some of them should offend.
It will be considerably cheaper to post signs on every beach to direct cellphone carriers (about each person older than 10) to call the police if they observe offenders. The very presence of the signs may discourage misbehavior.
There are a lot more important things upon which Dennis can spend money.
