high-pitched sqeal

Every so often my computer makes this continuous high pitched & very annoying noise. Only way to get rid of it is to re-boot.
Seems to abit more often with time.
Ever heard of such a thing? (no pun intended)

Maybe a fan, not a major problem yet,
maybe the hard drive, potentially a real problem.
Fan might be dying, might be going faster to cool down computer because it is dusty inside. Quick fix.
Hard drive might be dying, not good. Hope you have saved important things like pix and docs on a CD or thumb drive
