Not sure. Perhaps to NOT repeat the error.
I went to "Regret the Error" to find out what other papers do, but got a warning that it was an "Attack Site".

I had no problem, but didn't hang around too long.

March 29, 2011
Because of incorrect information provided to the Times, a story about Jay Souweine on Page B1 of Sunday's Times misrepresented the number of local students involved in the Massachusetts Music Educators' Association All-State Festival over the weekend.

Independence House helps victims find shelter
March 29, 2011
Because of a reporting error, Independence House was incorrectly described in a story that appeared on Page A1 of the March 20 Sunday Times. Independence House is not a shelter, but will help victims of sexual and domestic abuse find shelter, said Lysetta Hughes-Putnam, Independence House executive director.
Staff from Independence House meet as members of the core team of the domestic violence high-risk task force, she said.
